Black Lab Yoga Philosophy
Black Lab Yoga is focused on providing a safe environment for anyone to practice yoga. Many people are not interested in going to a studio or gym to attend a yoga class. Black Lab Yoga has classes at a local recreational center, a local gym, and provides private sessions.
Our philosophy is based on the philosophy of “no pain, no pain.” We primarily teach Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga focuses on the individual staying within their range of motion. Our classes are gentle and go at a steady pace. Students are encouraged to honor their bodies. We recognize that everyone’s body functions differently each day. One day your balance may be great and the next it might not. We teach you to honor and to respect your body.
Yoga can be practiced by anyone regardless of age or health. Every pose can be modified to accommodate injury or general health issues.

Founder of Black Lab Yoga, Inc., Melanie Iriye, B.S., R.Y.T, takes a holistic approach to health and wellness. In 1995, Melanie received her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services from Florida State University. She realized that traditional western approaches to healthcare fail to account for other factors such as psychological, social, economic, and cultural factors. This realization led Melanie to study the works of Dr. V. Lad, Eckhart Tolle, Swami Saradananda, and Deepak Chopra, to name a few. With a deeper understanding of health and wellness, Melanie now knows that healthcare should not start when one suffers injury or disease.
